2017 TASC Leadership Award Recipients

The TASC Leadership Awards recognize the outstanding leadership of individuals and organizations that consistently demonstrate innovation and courage in addressing some of society's most pervasive challenges.

On December 14, TASC will honored two individuals who represent these principles in action:

Justice Leadership Award
Howard A. Peters III • HAP, Inc.

Howard A. Peters III is a longtime advocate for Illinoisans striving to overcome health challenges, justice involvement, and related hardships. During his more than 40 years in public service, he led the Illinois Department of Corrections and the Illinois Department of Human Services, and was appointed in 2015 by Governor Rauner to the Illinois State Commission on Criminal Justice and Sentencing Reform. Under the Illinois Health and Human Services Transformation initiative, Mr. Peters currently serves as vice chair of the Medicaid Advisory Committee, advocating for fair access to quality healthcare. Known for his big-picture perspectives and thoughtful input, he offers a strong and respected voice for disempowered and disenfranchised populations, and offers creative, collaborative solutions to increase health and improve justice for all.

Public Voice Leadership Award
Jessica Hulsey Nickel • Addiction Policy Forum

Jessica Hulsey Nickel is a nationally respected champion for sound addiction policy and criminal justice reform. Inspired by a deep personal commitment to families affected by addiction, she has been instrumental in shaping and advancing federal legislation to improve justice and support recovery, including the landmark Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2016, which fights the opioid epidemic and supports front-end criminal justice diversion among its key provisions, and the groundbreaking Second Chance Act, which has seeded more than 700 local reentry initiatives across the country. As founder and president of the Addiction Policy Forum, Ms. Nickel has created a diverse national partnership of families, policymakers, and organizations committed to raising awareness and ensuring comprehensive responses to addiction and its consequences.

 

TASC Leadership Awards Luncheon
